Fungicidal Effect of Guava Wood Vinegar against Colletotrichum coccodes Causing Black Dot Disease of Potatoes

Wood vinegar (WV) by-product of charcoal production is considered one the most promising alternatives to synthetic pesticide and fertilizer applications, especially for organic production. Our goal in this study evaluate efficacy guava (Psidium guajava) WV control Colletotrichum coccodes, which causes black dot disease, how it influences potato plant development yield. This tested against pathogen both vitro under greenhouse conditions. Different concentrations were on growth development, including 0, 0.25%, 0.50%, 1%, 2%, 3% (v/v). Data revealed that pathogen’s mycelial was significantly inhibited at all concentrations, highest inhibition (100%) obtained WV. In trials conducted two seasons (2021 2022), applied as a foliar spray concentration 2% considerably reduced severity evaluated stem colonization (average 22.9% 2021, average 22.5% root covering with sclerotia 21.7% 18.3% 2022) wilted plants percentage 27.8% 33.3% 2022). Overall, also showed positive effect by increasing height, diameter, tuber yield per treated seasons. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses presence phenols, esters, acids, antioxidants, alcohols. conclusion, could represent viable alternative disease management promotion.
